Wyoming is one state where we book a high number of our mule deer hunting clients. The state offers a wide variety of hunting packages, ranging from vast private ranches to high country trophy hunts deep inside the wilderness of western Wyoming. This state has it all and we have access to the top outfitters and guides. All of our hunts are customized to fit the individual hunter's needs. We welcome groups and also encourage parent/youth hunts. Our mule deer hunts range in price from $3,000 to $5,500 depending on the outfitter and package booking. Montana Hunts

Montana is another popular mule deer hunting state due to the liberal season dates of late October throughout the rut and into late November when trophy bucks are most vulnerable and the guaranteed deer licenses obtained through booking an outfitted hunt. Several years of mild winters have deer populations in eastern Montana higher than in several decades. Some regions boast buck to doe rations as high as 50:100 with many 5-7 year old bucks for hunters to pursue. Many of our clients in eastern Montana report seeing 20-30 bucks a day while hunting with our outfitters. Our top trophy areas are in the southeastern region in the Tongue and Powder River drainages on big private ranches and in the northeastern portion of the state along the Missouri River breaks and it's tributaries where high deer densities and good numbers of mature bucks make this a mule deer hunting paradise. While we do offer some southwestern and northwestern mule deer hunting it is mainly in combination with elk hunting. Our true trophy mule deer hunts cost between $3,500 and $4,500 depending on the outfitter, ranch, and region being hunted. In any case, our outfitters are all top professionals who will work hard to find you the buck of your dreams. If you would like more information on our Montana mule deer hunting please contact our office today.

The second area is along the North Dakota border just outside of Sidney, MT in the rugged badlands like breaks above the Yellowstone River. Both of these areas are managed for mature mule deer bucks and we book our hunters at the end of October and through the month of November during the peak of the rut. Licenses are guaranteed through the outfitter! Call our office for dates and availability.

Alberta Canada Hunts

This is your tip for booking a hunt in 2008 or 2009: "Book a hunt in Southwest Alberta". The region has exceptionally good deer populations and excellent numbers of mature bucks. It is not uncommon for hunters to see 20-30 bucks a day and some hunters reported seeing over 40-50 bucks in a single day of hunting in this deer rich area. This area has been solid for 160-180 class bucks and we have watched as our top area has steadily improved. In 2001 we saw a lot of 3-4 year old bucks. In 2002 we saw a lot of 4-5 year old bucks. And it has just kept getting better and better. In 2004 our client Scott McClintic killed a giant 201 B&C trophy and our clients averaged 175+ B&C.

British Columbia Canada Hunts

British Columbia is one of the most overlooked mule deer hunting destinations in all the western states. While not all of the province has quality mule deer hunting, there are some exceptional locations that trophy hunters need to consider. First is the southern region , where the very best trophy hunting is found. This is prime time mule deer habitat and a super diverse season allows hunters to pursue mule deer from September 1 through December 10 each fall. At Steve's Outdoor Adventures we exclusively book the early September hunts above alpine and then the late rut hunts in November and into December as the deer move into their winter range area. Deer here commonly are taken between 150-180 B&C with larger bucks taken every fall. The September hunts are just like those done in western Wyoming above alpine, only there is not a draw required to get a tag. And also unique only to this area is your ability to get a second mule deer tag and hunt for a second buck on a trophy fe e basis. All September hunts are done from horseback out of remote cabin and tent camps. November and December hunts are done from the main ranch & lodging facility using 4wd trucks and ATVs to access hunting areas.

Colorado Hunts

At this time some of the most serious trophy mule deer hunting is found in the eastern plains of Colorado and along the western "front range"- and while we have hunts available here the bottom line is that private lands property management is the key to growing big deer. We have a long time established track record for growing and killing huge mule deer bucks in the State of Colorado - and every one of them has been taken on private lands. Here are some examples of the Colorado mule deer hunts we have to offer our clients.

Cimarron Ranch Property............................................................................................$4,500.00 + license

This hunt is done on a very productive private ranch 45 minutes east of Montrose in unit 65. This package automatically includes elk hunting for anyone who buys the license prior to hunt dates. 170-180+ class deer have been taken off of this ranch over the last several years and the property is limited to six rifle hunters each season. The rifle deer licenses are a 95% draw without preference points and 100% draw rate with one or more points. The property is closed to all archery and muzzleloader hunts to maximize the rifle hunting season.

SW Colorado Properties..............................................................................................$4,500.00 + license

We have some excellent properties located south of Dolores, CO and just north of the Ute Indian Reservation. This area produced the current world record typical mule deer and has continued to produce some of the largest trophy mule deer taken in the state each year. We have over 50,000 acres in private ranches under exclusive lease and management at this time. All of our clients will stay in a modern and comfortable lodge and be guided by professional guides during their stay. All hunts include 2x1 guide ratio with 1x1 upgrades available. We will be offering four archery deer hunts at the end of August each year as well as two muzzleloader hunts in mid September each fall as well. However our focus will be on rifle deer hunts in mid October and early November when we take a maximum of ten hunters each season. We expect our clients to take 160-180 B&C class bucks on the average. There is also a special limited entry late season deer hunt in this area which we estimate requires six to seven preference points to draw. Anyone interested in hunting this late season who has preference points should contact our office for special dates, availability, and rates.

Sonora Mexico Hunts

Sonora is the top destination for true trophy mule deer hunters. The season is generally between December 23rd and January 25th, after all of the mule deer seasons in the western states have closed. However the cost of the hunting and the relatively mild success rates on trophy bucks scare off many would be Mexico mule deer hunters. Shooting must be fast and quick decisions must be made when hunting in the desert, something not every hunter is ready or prepared to do after spending most of their lives hunting western mule deer which behave and are hunted differently than in Sonora. Many a hunter has come to Mexico and seen the deer of ten lifetimes only to have him slip away into the cactus. We book al of our hunters with an American owned outfitting company who has 90,000 acres in high quality exclusive leases. They took a high percentage of bucks in the 170-190 class including bucks that gross scored in excess of 200 B&C this past season. Cost for these hunts is $7,500 plus trophy fees based on the size of the deer taken, and the small cost of your gun permit. Please call our office today for more information on our quality Sonora mule deer hunts.

New Mexico Hunts

New Mexico is another state that offers mule deer hunting. While they do not have the dense deer populations that Wyoming and Montana have, certain regions of the state are very productive and we do have access to some outfitters who have done an excellent job of providing our clients with honest quality mule deer hunts. At this time it is our opinion however that hunters will get much more "bang for their buck" in other western states and we urge you to consider these other options before booking a New Mexico mule deer hunt. Contact our office today for dates and availability on our New Mexico mule deer hunting oportunities.

Oregon - Quality Mule Deer Hunts

*As of right now due to the very limited number of tags available in the best areas of Oregon, expected winter kill due to extreme snow conditions, and recent fire damages we will not be offering any 2008 Oregon big game hunts at this time.*

Utah Hunts

In recent years Utah has fast become one of the top trophy mule deer hunting states. However, while the state is producing awesome bucks, quality licenses are very hard to draw and the top private ranches can be very expensive to gain access to or book guided hunts. In most cases very good outfitters with land management programs are leasing these properties and selectively harvesting only top end deer each season. These are the only deer hunts we have available at this time, specifically on private ranches enrolled in the state's CWMU program with season dates between early September and mid-November. These ranches vary in size from 10,000 acres to 25,000 acres and all produce top end mule deer bucks.

West Texas Hunts

New for 2008-09 we will be offering a limited number of desert mule deer hunts on an exclusive and private ranch in west Texas two hours east of El Paso. The main property is 140,000 acres with an additional 121,000 acres of neighboring ranches where we have access as needed. The ranch has a tremendous population of mule deer and it is not uncommon to see 50-100 deer a day. The ranch is enrolled in a special program that allows for hunting November 29, 2008 through January 18, 2009. This takes in all of the pre-rut and peak rut times when the more mature bucks are vulnerable. Average size mule deer on this ranch are 22” to 26” wide with larger deer 28” and bigger taken every year. Lodging and meals are provided on site and they have a quality guide crew, newer vehicles, and a 100% success rate. Aoudad sheep, javelina, quail, and predator hunting is all available during the mule deer season. Please contact our office for dates and availability.
